Since having the E-M1X I have basically concentrated on getting it set up for b.I.f and utilising caf + trk which is great for most things but the focus point placement is often down to where the Ai decides it … today the penny dropped what am I doing simply go into A mode and change it to caf only, back to single point that I can control and use anywhere on screen .. I know I’m a daft old bugger and it’s taken 5 months for the penny to drop but I honestly think it was just laziness thinking 😏😎🥸😎🥸

I appreciate you refer to the E-M1X but I've been trying to work out the AF on the OM-1 for ages. Despite having bird and eye detection indicated by white boxes the green AF often goes elsewhere. I've had the AF Area Pointer on CN2 but get a bunch of green boxes flickering about. Some say they like this because they can see where the camera is focussing, for me it is just confusing so am now trying CN1. If only the green box would stay on when focus is acquired instead of flickering on and off. The AF is the only thing about the OM-1 that really bugs me and I know I have said this before but the Sony A1 is much better and simpler.

Not certain but I think they both work more or less the same . And checking through my pics it tends to be based on the plane of focus rather than a specific point . But after years of striving to get the focus point on the bird or it’s eye I find it annoying .. .. I will find my own work round for it though ..
You also have to take into account the effects of heat haze on focussing . Took lots of shots on Saturday with a far larger than normal amount being soft . Heat haze or a off day no idea but it annoys me to say the least
