  • MF lenses and focus peaking

a discussion on the TP forum the other night re focus peaking led to me searching e-bay for a MF lens once again . I found a lovely vivitar series 1 70-210mm zoom lens and I won it for the princely sum of £24 with the added bonus of next day delivery ..

so it arrived a while ago and after inspection for any signs of the dreaded fungus (all clear) I proceeded to list it to the camera and test it out on my primary targets outside , to anyone thats followed me for a while will know I use the same test targets for all lenses and all shots are hand held for a even playing field . I have focus peaking set to bright yellow and high , and on the e.M1X you can also add a focus box square to aid your point of interest , also magnify is switched on so a two button procedure ..

focussing is done with a light touch which engages peaking I tend to focus wide open the close to chosen apeture before firing the results so far (below ) are on a dull day with cloud cover and give favourable impression of the lens so its a keeper . will now search out other series 1 lenses as they do seem very well made .

There were quite a few variations of this focal length Series-1 designation - any chance of a photo of the lens?

Actually - there were only two official versions - I was more thinking about Tamron lenses of a similar focal length.

It’s the later A1 version ian which has two rows of apeture numbers . The earlier version only had one row .. I do believe there’s a different version too. But that does 3D shots I believe and they go for £500 plus..
Any lens that can give a clear definition on the lettering on these signs is a keeper this one’s surpassed the best previous ones

The distance to the dog bin is exactly 60.5 mtrs as measured on Google earth . I bet I could get even sharper on a tripod
Working...
