the other day I was blagged into going out in totally atrocious conditions by the wife and son , we went to the local N/R in the wood were exposure is bad on a sunny day and it was impossible on a bad day with the 100-400 . so I changed to the nikon 300mm f4 lens I keep for bad days , this is manual focus only but normally gives good results . I have also recently discovered that it works well with my olympus MC-14 TC as the lens has a recessed rear element .. not having used that combo before in dire conditions though one thing slipped me by .. the need to increase i.s.o values rather than relying on auto iso the shot posted below needed attention in both topaz de-noise and sharpen to get it nearly right taken at iso 500 at 1/100th sec so both noise and blur come into play . not something I had thought about previously but this post might help other experimenters that like to play around as theres a ton of long M/F lenses available to play with
