  • Epson XP-625 Printer/scanner

Bad news yesterday, just when I needed my printer to print out tickets etc for a trip overseas, the damned printer came up with this error.."A Printers ink pad at the end of its service life". No warning, and demanding to be switched off.

Not a cheap printer, owned for several years now, spare ink cartridges in the house, and now Phut...nothing.

Contacted Epson, for £48 they will collect and service the beast, taking two weeks plus. Might have been acceptable if I did not need the wretched thing now.

So looks likes I might be buying another printer/scanner before I go away next week. Not an Epson for certain...

Thanks David, I will give it a go. But I have bought the pack from Ebay, and it comes with a reset key. But in the meantime, I might try and take it apart. There is a video specific to my printer on how to de-construct the beast.

I would have thought it would be easy to do this job, which does need to be done. Reset keys, new 2 penny foam pads are all just so frustrating.....And no warning *isses me off................Grrrrr

Interestingly the video suggests that it is simply a counter that stops the printer rather than the pads actually getting saturated. If you can reset the counter it should be possible to print some more sheets before having to go through the messy process of washing them.

I swear by canon printers, mines a old 6 ink model but replacement inks are under £20 for 2 sets on amazon and work well ..

Sorted now. An App called WIC access the printer, and with a £10 key, enables the printer to work again.

I still have to take it apart and change the sponges though. What a palava...............

I wondered what happened when these ink pads get full. Pity you found out the hard way but looks like you have a solution up and running.

They just overflow gunk all over the place

MJ224, Do let me know of the process. I am sure there is an easier way then to take the whole printer apart.

Yes all went well Henry, instructions were good. Several screws later the ink sump was extracted, and the replacement pads installed. Only one minor problem was that I had one screw left over. :-(

Anyway, it all feels solid enough, we shall see...:-)

That happens. I was short of screws after I replaced my printer head.
            Working...
