  • 'WOW'....is that a 'plastic shell'.....?

OM-1, I'm reading suggestions elsewhere that it may have a plastic shell.

Is that perhaps the 'WOW' factor or just a malicious rumour 🤷

It seems it's an alloy body with some plastic covers. Probably part of the weather sealing.

Magnesium alloy body. They'd always some plastic and trigger on the exterior; they are very useful materials funnily enough.

Many manufacturers use plastic in the “wear” areas. In the old days “brassing” was something that was hated by some and loved by others (showed signs of lots of use). It’s also a better insulation than metal in keeping heat out as well as not feeling as cold to the touch.

I actually quite like having a case on a camera to give it some knock and scrape protection as well as the better grip. But “each to their own”.

If the grips area is plastic ,it will cure the major problem of the mkii the grip ungluing … plastic is impervious to body oils … if as I do you tend to have oily skin then the rubber rapidly absorbs it and loosens the glue .. so replacing the grip area with plastic is a bonus move ..

my wife and I both tend to spend the same amount of time on our i.pads my screen gets greasy within a hour hers stays sparkling all day . So it’s a easy problem to find ..

It looks like the new camera has some grip-like textured stuff on the flip-side of the LCD screen. It looks kind of odd to me as I’m used to the Olympus logo on there with the other cameras.
