  • Typhula Lit by Flashguns on Spikes

This fungus (about a foot tall) was in a wood on a dull day (not at night as the images suggest).

I often use my RC flash guns on individual stands at ground level but lighting from higher up is sometimes useful.

In this setup I am free to walk around 360 degrees, relative to the flash guns. I have included them in the frames to show the setup. The image of the fungus show a result from that session.

The spikes are mini monopods sold for mounting trail cameras. They come in various sizes and mine are adjustable.

The stereo (not the best) is crosseye.

Useful bit of technique there! I had considered taking lighting stands with me - but they're quite cumbersome in comparison...

I find the ST-F8 very user friendly, and adding this arrangement to that may be worth trying out!

Mine extend to 56cm and collapse to 34mm, just fitting in my larger camera bag.
