  • NHS wales on the ball NOPE

Got a hospital letter just now and thought wow there quick off the mark after the doc referral on Monday .

Well I opened the letter to see that it was about a MRI scan I had on my ear in January and telling me that no further action was required..

I then looked at the date on the letter it was 23 of April this year and has arrived on 21 December ,you honestly couldn’t make it up

looks like there catching up at last

I have an appointment with the surgeon in four weeks time regarding my knee- had three letters in two days from NHS advising the appointment date! - Bit of a waste really.

      NHS or postal problem?

You get informed via email in France.

I don't think there is an NHS-wide standard, which is amazing. I normally get email + SMS, but consultants seem to have their own admin and tend to do things their way. I had treatment at a specialist Oncology unit in Sheffield, and the consultants I encountered each did things differently.

I find it varies depending on department. Rheumatology are usually pretty quick - 1 or 2 months, ophthalmology are slower - usually get the results letter just before the next 6 monthly appointment: the only time they were quick was when the signed me off last time! Urology is also a weird one, currently on 6-monthly scans to ensure growth on kidney doesn't go past 5cm and I never know when I'm going to hear from them!
