  • Affinity bought by Canva

I received a mail yesterday from Affinity informing me that they have sold out to Canva. I'D never heard of Canva before, after checking out their website it would seem that they are an online design company based in Australia using a subscription usage method. According to the Affinity Press release there are no major changes planned for the sales model presently available to all Affinity users, no forced subscription models for users of the perpetual software that would restrict future version updates.

As with all of these acquisitions in the past, time will tell just how long things stay as they are.

I also received that mail and a subsequent update today - https://www.canva.com/newsroom/news/...-canva-pledge/

Given how costly licenses on a per pupil basis are I am sure the offer of free software to schools and registered non profits will be welcomed.

I too had the surprise email yesterday! As a long-time user of Affinity Photo, I fear this probably amounts to the beginning of the end of the app as we know it and the eventual imposition of a subscription model of payment. Sort of sad really but maybe I have become too familiar with and attached to their software!

OH NO!. I got into affinity photo because of the non subscription. Pray it will not become a subscription software in the future.
