  • Lightroom v6.0 (stand-alone) installation problem

Due to a hard drive corruption I was forced to reinstall Windows 10 on a new SSD. Everything went well until I tried to reinstall my registered copy of Lightroom 6 (the last stand-alone version). After a lengthy conversation with Adobe Customer service they claim that my copy is illegal (despite still appearing in my Adobe account with the same product serial number) . If they are right then the counterfeiters have gone to a huge amount of trouble producing a perfect copy of the original box, insert, CD, and all the individual labels.
I had no problem with installing the software when purchased second-hand in 2021, nor when I swapped computers late last year, so I am suspicious that something else is in play here, and would be interested to hear from anyone who has experienced the same problem.
In the meantime anyone still using LRv6.0 make sure you have a full working backup copy of your system !

No problem here. I have LR on two computers and update when updates are available....

I don't have a CD, I just download as and when...

    Good luck

I don't think you can be talking about Lightroom 6 because updates ceased a few years ago

Adobe have no interest in helping you with the now unsupported LR6.
I suspect it is showing as still being installed on two machines, if that is the case only Adobe can deregister it.

You can try and use the information from this link to get it back https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/lightroom...f-support.html
Updates no longer work directly from the program and it will reinstall at 6.0.
The above link should help you get it back to its final iteration of 6.14

That sounds like you have the subscription version. I'm referring to the old stand-alone version, long since discontinued from sale and support, but should still be possible to install from a legitimate CD.

I had a similar problem when my old PC failed, but at least LR6 was still supported then.
As I mentioned above I think you might find the problem is getting it de and re registered.

I installed LR6 earlier this year on a brand new W11 machine from an exe I'd copied from the DVD/CD I bought back in 2017 (by the looks)
I just entered the serial from the disc cover during installation IIRC.
When I started up it wanted to register with Adobe - IIRC I said I'd do it later and since then LR6 has been available on the old PC and the new one no problems at all.
I also upgraded it to the final 6.14 from a version of the download I'd archived a few years ago - "Lightroom_6_LS11" which is a 1.1GB file and basically a complete installer too.

I was slightly surprised it went so smoothly. Have you tried installing WITHOUT the PC having internet access?

https://account.adobe.com/products# still shows a registered product of LR6 but the installer links are now dead.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a go disconnected from the internet. I really do not belive my copy is illegal and it installed without problems over the internet back in 2011 and again late last year. So why would it suddenly become 'illegal' now? I think Adobe have screwed up somewhere and are using the 'illegal copy' excuse to cover their cockup and avoid litigation.

You have to validate it online, think it was the first version you needed to be connected for.
