  • Affinity – Something Big is Coming

I have just received an email from Affinity entitled ''Something Big is Coming' complete with a teaser video. I wonder if this is good news for OM-1 users and will finally allow raw support? I imagine it is probably going to involve a financial outlay to acquire what looks to be a major update. The announcement is due on 9th November.

Interesting, I checked for an update of Affinity Photo the other day when I updated my Mac.

I hope they make the Affinity Photo app easier to use. It’s not my primary photo app but has some great features, I just have to watch a tutorial every time I go back to it! Can’t complain as I think I paid only £24 for it. OM-1 support would be good too.

i wonder if they will be going down the AI route? That seems to be flavou of the month at the moment. It might make it a lot easier to use.

Can't help feeling slightly miffed if I have to pay to get OM-1 support when it's been around for more than 6 months.

Don't mind AI features as long as they're not fluff like some of the tools currently on offer.

Photoshop 2023 supports Oly RAW files - I think I'll stick with that

I use their Publisher software for compiling zines, maybe the new Photo will mesh with it a bit better than the current iteration

It's released. V2 supports OM-1 Raw and has quite a few new features.

Here is a summary video of what's new.

The cost is £35.99 one off payment.

The only fully-loaded photo editor integrated across macOS, Windows and iPad, Affinity Photo is the first choice of millions of professionals around the world.

I decided to purchase the Universal Licence and have downloaded Photo 2, Designer 2 and Publisher 2, to replace my original versions of those applications. Hopefully it will be as before and I won't have to pay anything more for at least three years.

I really need to sit down and watch some videos to find out how to use it, as I tried to edit some photos and there are quite a few differences from the previous version. For example I couldn't work out how to crop a raw file or export a file at chosen dimensions. It is possible that I need to change some settings, so it will take a while to get it set up for my requirements. Anyway I have complete faith in Affinity, as I have found them to be an excellent company to deal with so far.

Affinity made a booboo. They should give an upgrade price and a normal retail price and a festival price. The current as the upgrade price, GBP5 up for festival price and GBP15 up for normal price. And for those who bought in under 12 months be given a GBP 5 discount on the upgrade price.

Now they have the wrath of the whole community comming down on them.

I confess that I haven't used any Affinity software for such a long time that the current product would probably be unrecognisable. I have perused the press info and I have to say that for Affinity Photo I'm not really seeing anything that really wows me - no AI-function tools, there are some new layer tools, but I don't use layers much, and I was surprised that non-destructive RAW functions were being emphasised as new and interesting?

I'm sure someone much better versed in Affinity Photo could illustrate what is genuinely new and useful in this update/
