  • DXO Pure Raw update...

Installed DXO on my new Windows 11 conputer. At first try it hung the computer. Control Alt Delete time. But then it popped upn with an update for various bugs. So I installed that hoping th at was my prvious problem. But no, on loading it. it hung again.!

Being new to Windows 11, I can't just right click on the taskbar and load Task Manager. So I have to learn how to do that.

2nd time round to load DXO. it loads fast. I then choose my photos to process, and choose the method. DXO process the firts, and the rest (20 odd) just get an exclamation mark on them, and processing comes to a halt.!

So I have to deselect all of the photos, and reselect them. This time it works well, processing a photo in under 20 seconds...

    Is it me.................????????

Oh dear doesn't seem great. Maybe reboot after the install? Not you, it's the tech going wrong.

I'm using Mac system now the world of work has wished me goodbye so can't remember much of Windows.

From memory as a programmer I used to run things with "Windows Key + Alt" then in the Run dialog that brings up type the program name like "taskmgr" and run it that way. There will be about 10 ways of doing the same thing in Windows though! Maybe make a shortcut in the task bar when you get it running - I used to right click the running program icon to do that.

I've just seen there is a DxO update:

What’s new in DxO PureRAW 2.2.1
    Bug Fix
    • Special symbols in folder name processed through Explorer/Finder returns error - This issue has been fixed.
    • [macOS] - error when processing images from Lightroom plug-in - This issue has been fixed
    • Minor Bug Fixes

Are you on 2.2.1? The folder name thing might be an issue.

    Just going to update it...

      Yep, ver 2.2.1,,,

Six ways of loading Task Manager, all with several keys as far as I can see, What happened to the ONE right click on the task bar...(Progress they call it). Good idea about a shortcut, if I ever find it here in W11....

      Edit:

Actually pretty simple once you know, a Right Click on the Windows icon in the task bar.....

You (and perhaps others) will not like me for saying this but you should have gone Mac when you had the chance.

Windows does of course work for most people but at what cost? As a bystander, all I see are problems and more problems😎

I am logging out now to protect myself

No need for that Dave, you might be right. But the unknown is the greater fear. Anyway, all problems are mostly sorted now, emails, photo processes, Word and Excel working. Reasonably happy with the speed increase etc....:-)

I do prefer MacOS, but Windows isn't all bad. It has the advantage that it's got the widest range of app for it.

Having a Mac is a great excuse not to join some of my friends for lengthy online computer gaming sessions, so I can play around with my photos instead 😂

For the task manager, right click on the windows (4 squares) thing on the task bar (the "start menu") and Task Manager is on the menu - just like windows 10 but the start menu has moved.

If I recall correctly, when I first installed DXO PureRaw2 it did hang the machine but second time after reboot worked fine. Subsequently, I launch it through the lightroom File/Plug-in extras menu and it has run processing all the selected images without an issue (well sometimes it takes up to a minute to launch the main page, but has never failed to launch and process).

      Cheers
      Ed

        Two more tips for Windows.

Hold down Windows key and type X. Gives you lots of useful things quickly. (This does the same as a right-click on the Start button.)

Hold down Ctrl and Shift and type Esc - this gives you Task Manager instantly.
