  • DXO PL5 - big problems for me with latest (minor!) update - SOLVED

I just accepted the latest update to PL5, now v5.5.0 build 4770. I'd been in the middle of editing a tranche of photos, all going well until I accepted the update following a power-on.

I've been using PL5 very happily since I installed Colin Walker's Color Fidelity profiles in February.

Following the update, if I touch the contrast sliders at all the exposure increases hugely (though all exposure sliders remain unchanged). This happens regardless of which direction I move the sliders or by how much. It happens also if I touch the Selective Tone sliders, or even if I click on the Selective Tone button with all sliders at zero.

Curiously, I have managed to edit one photo when this behaviour stopped. However, it's misbehaving again even for that successfully edited photo.

All seems to work fine if I use the DXO built-in camera profiles (Olympus EM1 mk. ii). This really isn't an option as they are so garish that I can't fathom how anyone could use them. If I hadn't discovered Colin's profiles, I would have had to abandon DXO.

Has anyone else experienced this problem when using DCP profiles with the latest PL5 updates?

    Thanks,
    Declan.

    Hi Declan,
Have you reached out to Colin Walker to see if he is aware of the problem?

Thanks Dave. I did - he had a look and suggested I contact DXO, which I did. Hopefully they'll revert shortly with good news.

If you were not aware already there is this DxO community website where DxO staff also get involved.

        https://feedback.dxo.com/c/dxo-photo...lab-windows/36

So maybe worthwhile joining that forum to raise & discuss the matter there?

I have linked to the Windows sub section but there is a Mac section too.

Thank you. It was a toss-up whether to post to the forum or ask directly, and I opted for the latter.

Ah! fair comment, though I think I have seen some users over time do both......perhaps that reinforces the message and engages others insights on case they have experienced similar issue(s) ?

All the best and hopefully you will get a resolution

Still struggling here. I just did a full, fresh reinstallation to no avail.
I don't have a good sense for how many of you successfully use PL5 as a standalone editor. Perhaps not too many.

Have any of you experienced this issue when using presets?

Is anyone using the Colorfidelity presets successfully with current PL5 software?
              How about other custom presets?

UPDATE: To my delight, the 6.1 update today seems to have fixed my problem. I can now use my third-party presets again!. I had been muddling along with the inbuilt DXO camera profile, which was generally tolerable as long as I whacked 'Protect Saturated Colours' up to 80%. However, re-visiting a few people pics and applying Colin Walker's presets, the skin tones are immediately far more natural.

To DXO's credit, they did confirm to me that this was a bug and advised that they would address it with this update.

Hi Dec, would you have a link or URL for Colin Walker's Color Fidelity profiles, please? Google fails to yield anything appropriate... Thanks!

I think this is the link. I don't use them so not 100% certain.

Hi Lester. It does look like Colin created them for Adobe but they certainly work very well for DXO, at least for the EM1 ii. I think you might need the Elite edition of Photolab, but using the presets is a simple matter of creating a folder for them within the Presets folder, and then using the Import button under 'Color Rendering'.

Colin has explained this in an email to me, "The new OM1 profiles are in the DCP format and will work fine with DXO products. Instructions are for Adobe products but the DXO manual will tell you how to use DCP profiles in general."

That's great Lester. It's easy to set up, but don't hesitate to ask me if I can help.
