I need to pick the brains of the computer experts on here, as I am computer illiterate I use Olympus Master & Gimp V2.6, when I move a picture from Olympus to Gimp, no problem, but after editing the picture in Gimp if I then try & move the picture back into Olympus Master then Olympus Master will instantly crash, no doubt the answer is obvious to someone on here & I would be most grateful for it, thank you
Sorry I have tried everything and I can't get it to crash. Are you saving with a different file name from GIMP as it may be a master DB issue that is causing the problem.

Good luck
It does not make any difference whether I change the name or not.....................it just says programme not responding. Could it be my actual computer ? or a virus of some sort in Gimp which makes other programmes crash
Well I can't get it to crash - this way - purely by opening accessing Gimp edited files.
But I have in the past managed to make Master crash if other software has read/written to folders that master db thinks it is managing. It is not a particularly tolerant bit of software and anything unexpected tends to promote a teenage sulk, and just like a teenager it is almost impossible to tell what has upset it (mine for instance used to dislike pictures imported using windows picture/fax viewer).
I use Master for what it is quite good at, and that is the processing of RAW files, with practically every other feature switched off/unused.
I really doubt if it a virus issue associated with The GIMP, there are a number of forum boards dedicated to the product and they would be screaming if there was a problem.

What exactly do you mean by "move from Olympus to Gimp" and "move back to Master"? Do you edit in Olympus and then open and edit in Gimp? If so, do you leave it open in Olympus while editing in Gimp? That might make Master crash.

I'd agree very much with this... My workflow tends to be to use Master to develope the RAW file and any minor/simple edits then print or archive from there. If I want to do serious manipulations where I'd use PS3 or GIMP then they get saved in a "transfer" folder, all other programmes get shut down and I restart the computer with only the editor running.
I think I have a male computer, it does one thing at a time very well but is not that good at multi-tasking...
Crashes can often be attributed simply to conflicts between programs installed on a PC or certain combinations of programs running simultaneously. In their own right there is nothing wrong with them, it's just when you get two programs running at the same time that conflict with each other.
To give you an example, my PC often crashes when I have Facebook and Google Earth running together. Google Earth gets itself into a "loop" that can only be resolved by powering off the machine.
Have you tried running Master and Gimp with nothing else running?

Thank you everyone for your help/advice, I think I will try the one thing at a time aproach like Graham has suggested & see if this helps at all
BTW @ Nick Where are the forums for Gimp ?
Well - I don't contribute to any and only browse when I want to know how to do something - but a google on GIMP Forums leaves you spoilt for choice (and a straight google on gimp and whatever your question - usually leads to an appropriate answer on one of the boards).
As others have commented Master does seem intollerant of working with other programs and not allways predictably so I tend to use it as little as possible.
Another possibility is to use RawTharapee (another free program) to develop RAW files. It works well with Gimp and even has an option to transfer files directly to Gimp.

That's fine as long as you are not using the E620. I have tried v2.4, the patch for 2.4 and the Alpha version of 3. It falls over every time.

Thank you very much for the info. I did not know about RawTharapee, which sounds rather interesting

I found RawTherapee glacially slow! UFRaw is much faster and also integrates with Gimp.
