  • Raw on M1 Macbook oversaturated.

I have an M1 Macbook Air running Monterey with all the latest updates applied. I'm finding that if I use the laptops built in screen that RAW files are oversaturated in any of Apples own programmes such as finder, quick look and photos. Apple seems to apply a P3 profile to any RAW file rather than the more usual sRGB. This profile is biased towards the red end of the spectrum and causes images displayed to be oversaturated to the point that much detail is lost especially on red subjects such as flowers. Just wondering if it's just my laptop or if all are the same. The easiest way to see it is to shoot something in RAW + Jpg and the difference in finder, photos and quick look will be very apparent. The same problem was also apparent when this laptop was running Big Sur so it's not just Monterey OS causing the problem.

I'm not a \Mac user, but out of curiosity, is the problem specific to Olympus RAW files?

      Hello Ian

Not as far as I can tell, on my Macbook Canon, Panasonic and Olympus RAWs are affected. RAW files don't have a built in colour profile, until processed they are just raw data and Apple seems to now automatically add the P3 profile (which is the profile they use for the Laptop screen) to any image type file that has not already got a profile.

Try creating a “Test User” and delete its “ColorSync” folder .

          Hi Graham,

Have tried that but it seems it will not allow me to delete or rename that folder.
