Photoshop Transparency - how do I make 1 colour transparent?

Hey All

I am wondering if anyone here knows how I make just one single colour in an image transparent? I have pasted a copy of another image into the main image and I want to make the white background in the pasted image transparent so that the background shows through.

Can anyone advise as to how I accomplish this please... thanks.

Change the blend mode of that layer to darken.

Off course if you have any pure white in the top image its self as well as the back ground that will also show the under lying layer as well, in which case use a layer mask to paint those parts back in.
