How do you store your images??

I was just interested in how other members store their images.
This is what I do.

After an initial focus check I burn my Raw images onto DVD's and also copy them to my external hard drive.
I then process my Raw images and resize them as viewing copies.
I the store these on my computor hard drive and also on my external hard drive.
I file the DVD's away hopefully never to see the light of day again.

This way I have two copies of my Raw images stored and two copies of my viewing copies stored so if I get a failure on any of my media I should in theory have a copy as backup.

Interested in other people's methods.

My methods are similar to yours, only i'll burn 2 dvds and have one as a viewing copy, and also use the HD. I'm thinking also about online storage, if anyone can recommend a company.

Can anybody recommend a decent archival quality DVD?

I'm a bit more paranoid ...

1.Copies onto Internal HD first for speed of processing - it's the fastest drive I have.
2. Initial cull then takes place
3. Then Copies onto External HD as initial backup before I do ANYTHING further
4. Any post processing then takes place on the Internal HD
5. Final resynch to external HD
6. Write 3 copies onto DVD
- One held at My PC for ease of use
- One downstairs in case that DVD is corrupted
- One at my wifes office in case of fire
7. I then wipe the ORF files from the internal HD - it's fast. but not huge

I plan to purchase a lot more disk in the next year which will allow hierarchical data management with just a single offsite copy. This will simplify things significantly.

I use MirrorFolder (http://www.techsoftpl.com/backup/index.php) to back up all my saved files in real time. This means that as I transfer files from card to computer, they are copied to my internal hard drive and to an external hard drive simultaneously. As I process them, the saved files on the external hard drive are also processed. As "belt and braces" I then back up image files to DVD usually weekly. I believe I have mentioned MirrorFolder in a previous post, it's a great bit of software. It does not slow the computer and you can mirror any folder to multiple destinations, you can even mirror the complete c:/ drive. Worth checking out.

I don't intend to suggest that this is not a good idea in some situations, mirroring is great in aiding recovery from disk crashes, but does not allow recovery to point in time. Part of your storage should be backup and mirroring should not be confused with that.

e.g. if you were unfortunate enough to have a crash in mirroring software or had a virus attack it's quite "normal" for both mirrors to be corrupted (This occurs even with expensive professional hardware mirroring) therefore you still need to cover yourself with a point in time recovery mechanism.

Therefore I keep my external HD switched off apart from the time I am using it.
