  • HELP! LR '"The file could not be found"

I use an iMac, store my images on two external drives, using LR 5 to manage and edit my photos.
For some reason I am getting the message "The file could not be found" when moving from Library to Develop mode. I then have to re import the files from one of my drives to edit or print. I also have to uncheck the box, "Don't import suspected duplicates' to impost them.

It is getting a pain as I can see the edited file in Library, but to use it, I have to reimport it, which poses its own problems.

I am thinking of moving to Affinity for editing, but not sure how to manage my files as I rely on LR.

    Any advice?

It sounds like there is some inconsistency with where you store you original images. If images get disconnected, Lightroom does have a tool for finding them again. Reimporting is not a good idea really. Are you using one catalogue for both external drives?

      Dunno Ian.
I import to one drive and tick the option to "make a second copy to"
What is the tool for finding disconnected images?

          Thanks Ian.

Finding the photos is not the problem, they are there in the Library mode, trying to edit or print them is when I get the message ""The file could not be found".
I will go to the Adobe site and see what I can find.

Thanks again Ian. Having read and re read the instructions on the Adobe site, I should now be able to find the missing images.
            Thanks again.

Find means re-link, as I think you have discovered

As all LR users know to their cost - do it once, then never again - all hell breaks out if you move any of your photographs using explorer (in Windows). Always use LR for file management. It's probably the number one error committed by new LR users.
