  • Stop Apple Photos auto-startup

Some of us, I know, have recently been annoyed after El Capitan upgrade by Apple Photo's insistence on firing up automatically every time you connect a device or card. You could disable it for each device - tedious - but there does seem to be a way to switch it off altogether, according to this article.

You have to be comfortable using a Terminal command line, but it looks pretty straightforward. I'll certainly be killing the darn thing.

Hi Margaret. In that article I was surprised to read that reformatting the card will cause it to be treated as a new device, making it open Photos again. That doesn't happen with my computer. However, I have already used the tip mentioned towards the bottom of the comments on the article and set up Image Capture to determine which application is opened when a device is connected. That seems to work with my computer.

The only problem I have at the moment is that my card does not always appear on the desktop when I insert it, unless I restart the computer. I don't know what that is about!
