HELP! Lightroom 4.04

Al of a sudden LR sees my pics but then leaves this message when I try to import them

"The following files were not imported because they could not be read."

Doesn't matter whether the file is ORF or JPEG. What may have I done to the settings to cause this?

I have reformatted and changed CF cards tried card reader versus direct from camera all to no avail.

Others have had similar problems from time-to-time according to Adobe for a but none of the advice is relevant.

I dare say you have already done it, but try resetting the software options/preferences.

Have you tried copying the files into a temporary folder on your hard drive and importing from there?
Failing that you could copy the files to their final folder on your hard drive and then import without copying into Lightroom.

I use lightroom, but I always manually copy the files from my card to my hard disk, then just tell Lightroom ehere they are.

Should have mentioned that this was tried and it WORKED. But I still want to know why importing from the card in a reader has finally stopped working. It is inconvenient because before I could choose which ones I imported.

Thought I should say that I got an answer from the LR Forum. One of the Mods suggested that as I had installed a new OS - viz Win 10 - I should check the access properties on the drives. Sure enough it had take full control off me for the LR Cat drive. Reset to full control and foxed.

Thought I would post this to make sure others are aware of the implications.
