  • HELP! Warning Message on Computer - What Does This Mean?

I'm getting this warning on my PC. I'd be grateful if the computer experts on the forum could tell me what it means and if I need to take any action. Thanks.

    Hi john!

There was a security notice about flash player a few days ago - everyone was advised to update their flash player to the latest version. Maybe it is something to do with that?

It's probably worth updating your flash player if you haven't already done so.

    Cheers,

    Ralph.

Firefox was blocking all Adobe Flash Player apps as they had a security problem with them.

Check that you have the latest AFP installed.

Thank you, Ralph and Graham. I've tried downloading the latest version for Windows 8.1 from the Adobe site but I get a message that it is not available for my computer.

          Hi John

it does look like a flash issue, but we need some more information

Is it one specific video or many ?
Is it specific site or many ?
Is it in one type of browser? (it's always worth having more than one installed as none of them meet the full HTML5 spec and some times a site will not cope)

          regards

How strange! All I got when doing the update, was "Shut down Firefox"

Then once it installed it wanted $9.99/month for Creative Cloud...

Re: Warning Message on Computer - What Does This Mean?

I'm an old dog and I don't want to waste what time I have left learning new computer tricks. After trialing out W10, I've reverted back into my comfort zone with W7.

Wasn't all that taken with v8 or v8.1. W10 has too many bits and bobs hidden away or that you can't opt out of for my liking. I also don't want to have to buy into 'the App Store' mentality for items that in W7 I can download with less hassle and have for free. The old saying that, 'there is no such thing as a free lunch' is certainly coming true with a vengeance.
It's not what inspires us that is important, it's where the journey takes us.

Re: Warning Message on Computer - What Does This Mean?

This specific error does seem to be squarely the fault of MS and I'm sure there will be a few more before things settle down, but I don't get the stance of going back to 8.1 or preferring win7 - it must have taken me all of 10 minutes to make win10 do what I wanted it to do

I guess that we are different people ... and it's up to you all, but re some specifics

the facility for Microsoft to hijack your own personal Router and bandwidth to update any other computers in the neighbourhood
actually if you have 3 or 4 PC's in the family (we do) it reduces the network usage significantly, and it's only 2 or 3 clicks to turn if off if you don't want to

bits and bobs hidden away or that you can't opt out of
I find it very easy to opt out where I don't want to. I turned off cortana and location services and few other things

items that in W7 I can download with less hassle and have for free
any win7 64 bit download should work just the same as it always did. if you want a pure desktop app just use what you always did or install win10start and you have an almost pure desktop environment

the price we will all have to pay now and in the future for so called "free operating systems".
but it was a free upgrade ? and Adobe's approach moving to CC stopped me using their SW almost entirely

Like I say we are all different, but seriously I REALLY don't get the reluctance some of you have, I'm not having a pop at you I'm just confused

maybe there is a job out there for people to de-clutter people's installs and make them happy

                    regards

Re: Warning Message on Computer - What Does This Mean?

Hi Guys, lots of interesting and helpful replies to this thread since I last logged on, thank you. I find it reassuring that this appears to be a general problem following a Windows update, rather than a security risk specific to my computer. Thinking about it, the message only seems to pop up when I am browsing the MSN news page, which happens to be my home page. In fact, this could explain why my homepage has started to sometimes default to Blank, despite the MSN default being selected in Internet Options. I'm not sure I like the idea of setting the flash player to "Allow sites to save information on this computer" (not sure why, it just seems like one more control option being removed from me) so for the time being I'll just deal with the pop up when it occurs.

Regarding Windows 10, I have nothing against it per se, but it is only a few months since I got 8.1, which despite initial misgivings I find I actually like very much. I can't see any "must have" feature for me in v10.00 so it's a case of if it ain't broke don't fix it!

                      Thanks for all your replies.
