  • HELP! Photoshop help.

One for the experts among you.

I run Elements 10 which does just about everything I need.Just recently something seems to have changed, probably something I've done.
I used to be able to open a layer eg levels, click Ok and then I would get a levels window and be able to make my adjustments to that layer. That seems to have stopped working and I can't work out any way to make adjustments to any layer apart form changing the blending mode.

    Hope this makes sence.

Any help appreciated as I said probably something I've done or I'm just being stupid
    All the best

    Re: Photoshop help.

Andy it's possible the Elements Preferences file has become corrupt hence things not working as they should. You need to delete the Preferences file.

The way to do this is to quit Elements then restart by clicking the Elements icon then you should see a window asking if you want to start ORGANISE or EDIT, choose edit and Simultaneously press and hold the ALT, CTRL,SHIFT keys and a warning window will pop up asking if you want to delete the Preferences file click YES let Elements start then QUIT the program and restart again.

Elements will create a new preferences file and hopefully everything should be back to normal. This is basically a factory default so if you've made any changes they will be wiped out but don't worry just go through the Preferences dialogue box and make changes to suit.

    Hope this helps.

        Re: Photoshop help.

Toms correct about the preference file though I have never come across the action of the adjustment layers being corrupted before.

        A couple of questions

I- have you tried opening a adjustment layer from the layers pallet by clicking on the split circle?

2-If you are seeing the adjustment layer then at the top of the pallets box can you not see a tab marked Adjustments you need to click on to see the adjustment dialog.

3- On the layer have you tried double clicking on the cogged wheels to bring the adjustment dialog up?
        Regards Paul.

When I open an adjustment layer from the slit circle it's the same, no adjustment dialog.
There's no tab marked adjustments and if I click on the cogged wheels nothing happens.
I'll try Tom's idea later when I've woken up properly. If that doesn't work Ill uninstall the program and re-install it from disk(remembering to deactivate it first so I have no problems with the two licences) .

          Thanks for the reply

            Re: Photoshop help.

At the risk of being daft, it's not something really simple like the menu option Window/Adjustments has become unchecked?

Wow, give that man a pint.

Thanks very much, knew it was probably something simple but not seeing wood for trees springs to mind.
