I try not to go wider than 25mm. I find the distortion otherwise becomes a problem.
Photomerge is not the best stitcher out there but it has steadily improved and it does correct for distortion and vignetting to a degree. The curvature of the horizon is down to me not using a tripod and accurately levelling the camera

Not levelling the camera is no excuse for a curved horizon, Ian...

(hope you don't mind me fiddling with your picture)

I think you have found the limitations of using some pretty old kit. You are really pushing Windows 7 64. and CS6 to the limits. But, you got there in the end.

Try Microsoft ICE (Image Composit Editor) for all panos. My only failure was a seascape pano; waves move and never match. I should have thought of that!

I’ve found I’ve had to use different software depending on what the pano is. Very Occasionally, photoshop works ok on Astro, but the best results are on Affinity on my iPad (though it’s a hassle to transfer - iPad version is £50 cheaper than laptop version) . As mentioned Microsoft ICE is pretty good too- It certainly has more options than affinity.
it’s odd how the free or cheap programs are better than the expensive one that thinks it’s the best 🤔🤣

MS ICE is good, but these days Lighroom and PS are also really good.
