  • HELP! Making a Montage - Advice Please

The headmaster at our local school, where my wife works, is leaving at the end of term. Yesterday she casually mentioned that the staff had come up with the idea of a photo-montage of the school and surrounding area as a leaving present for him.......and wondered if I might do it!

I don't mind, I've already got a good stock of pictures of the local area plus many events at the school such as plays, fun days and sports days. The problems are that I've got just three weeks to do it (two really because I'm away for most of the third week), there are some specific shots that I will need to take during that time, and I've never done a montage before!

So, can anybody show me examples of montages and explain the techniques or recommend a good tutorial, please? I use Elements 9.

    Cheers.
    John

John there are ready made collage templates (that's what you mean I think) already in Elements from the basic simple ones to the more exotic and no need of a understanding of layers is needed as it is done for you and you can also rearrange them if you choose . You will find them under the Create Tab under Photo Collage.

Here is a example done using a Template in Elements 7 a couple of years ago.

Thank you Paul, that's brilliant - I didn't know Elements had this facility! I've got to dash out now, but I'll check it out later when I have more time. Thanks again.

Well that looks a great piece of software...are there any other sources as I don't do Elements.

Take a look at Picasa, it's got a lot of new features.

Ah that name rings a bell...I have used that once when on a windows older computer and lost it when getting a new one.(as well as forgetting the name).
Just going to have a look.

                  Whoah there, Keith

I went to something like: here (it's a little while ago now) and used the download button.

Haven't done it yet, I'm still taking pictures for it (two more this morning). Also, I'm seeing the lady in charge tomorrow to check exactly what they want and how big. I think I will be using too many individual pictures to fit in one of the templates, so I guess that I'll just have to work with layers (pain)!

Thank you...I downloaded it then uninstalled quickly....it took over my computer and copied all the photos it could find ....all this when I have just tried to slim down all the duplicated junk I had on it.

I thought it would just give me the Montage thingy.
