  • Lightroom preview oddity

Yesterday I imported some E-1 test shots (RAW and JPEG) into Lightroom 3.4. I have configured Lightroom only to preview the RAWs if a JPEG is also present. The previews should all have shown the same exposure, although they were different ISO settings.

However, the higher the ISO, the darker the previews became. Opening the RAWs in a Olympus Viewer 2 showed consistent exposure, as did the JPEGs,

I have never noticed this before and wondered if anyone else has?

I've not noticed it, but I'll try to repeat the process with my E-1 later and see what happens.

Well, I tried the experiment taking 4 shots, one at each ISO speed, in raw only to avoid clouding the issue with possible jpeg previews, and there is absolutely no difference in image brightness when viewed in Lightroom.

Thanks Stephen, I may delete and re-import them to see if it makes a difference.

Mind you, I only went up to 800 ISO because I haven't enabled the higher settings.

I have heard from someone on FTU that it's a historical issue with Adobe Camera RAW and the Oly E-1, see:

Just did some basic test shots with my E-1 and a Lastolite EzyBalance. I was using LR 3.3.

ISO's 100, 200 and 400 all OK. ISO 800 very slightly (0.1 stop) underexposed, ISO 1600 approx. 1.3 stops underexposed and ISO 3200 approx. 2.3 stops underexposed.

                Re: Lightroom preview oddity

                Hi
I have just fixed an unrelated proble with Lightroom 3 previews by finding the folder called 'Lightroom 3 Catalog Previews.lrdata' (which resides in the 'Lightroom' folder within 'My Pictures' on my Windows 7 PC) and renaming it ( I just put 'OLD' infront of it) while Lightroom was closed. When you re-open Lightroom 3 it builds another preview folder and mine all appeared correctly, however this could take a while (mine took about 15-20 mins) if you have loads of photos - don't do it if you are ready to go to bed!
Apparently LR3 previews can become corrupted if the program crashes (or for any other reason according to many on the web) and for the last 3 imports LR3 showed grey boxes instead of photos on my PC (they showed up fine in Faststone).
                I hope this helps?

I did some tests Ian and you are correct.

1st Row Shutter priority. 2nd row Manual in one stop increments.

                  ISO400 to 3200.

So its definatly a Lightroom and ACDsee Issue.
