  • Video editing freeware question for the experts

    Hi everyone,

I have been messing around with one of the very cheap mini video cameras that have flooded the market this weekend. I am not in anyway expert or even knowledgeable regarding video. Does anyone know of any freeware applications that would allow me to simply rotate the recorded video through 90 degrees?

These cheap mini cams do not have a viewfinder and I experimented today recording some birds in landscape mode.

My neck is getting tired watching the recording!

    Cheers

    Chris

Err, what format is the video in?
DivX, Mpeg, MOV, WMV ... something else?
I use various things but they all work with different video types...

The files are avi format, but if it makes it easier I found a great piece of freeware called any video converter which I could use to change the format.

      Thanks

You can do most things with 'Avidemux':

          Dear Jim,

Thanks for the suggestion, I will download it and do my worst with it. Hopefully woodpeckers will not be feeding on their backs sometime soon!

          Cheers

Hmm, turning an .AVI (presmumably one of the divX formets, since .AVI covers many many possibilities) through 90 degrees isn't something I've ever done.
            Does VirtualDub do it?
            does "Super" do it?

Avidemux takes some trial and error to find which output settings gives the best results... but it can be fast, which is nice.
Edit : yeah, apparently it does a rotate, cool.
            Good luck.

I have rotated a video when using 'Windows Movie Maker' on a Vista machine.

On my new computer with Windows 7 64bit, it has 'Windows Live Movie Maker' - retaining the rotate section of the program. http://explore.live.com/windows-live...maker?os=other

Just like that - gone in a flash! Now in use.

I haven't tried the latest "Windows" movie stuff, but always got the impression they wanted to save everything as .ASF = .WMV files...
