  • DxO Pure Raw 5

Looking like PureRaw 5 is on its way. https://www.dxo.com/news/introducing-pureraw-5/
My poor old PC struggles with ver 4 so this is a non runner for me at this time.
Wonder what more it will bring to the table?

I have issues with 4 also, reported it to support, it takes forever to "add images" , i am waiting the answer from them- it is a common problem I think. I still use 3 even though I have had 4 since it arrived , ref 5 I have asked if the bug affecting 4 has been sorted :-)

I quite often use my still installed 2 because 4 is so long winded, never bought 3.
Think I will put the seventy quid upgrade price towards something else this time.

At the time V3 would not handle the new OM1 so I tricked myself into reading V4 would , but it did not! Even so I found V4 long winded as you did , it worked until the last update then fell over! - Bit like me after a few :-)

On my windows PC I find that the latest V4 runs faster than V3 and works pretty well. I run it out of lightroom not directly. It also supports OM1.mk2 without issue.

It could be interesting to see some side by side comparisons between editions!

On my Windows PC I find V4 is faster than V3 with each RAW file taking about 6 seconds to process. If I drop a folder containing about 1,000 shots into the programme they load in about a miinute at most..All from my OM-1 MkII.

I am greatly looking forward to seeing what DxO Pure Raw 5 can do.

About a month ago, I did some serious testing of the performance of Lightroom Denoise, DxO Pure Raw 4, OMW, ON1 Denoise and Topaz PhotoAI. My article was published at the Luminous Landscape, but you can read a โ€˜freeโ€™ version on my blog (Raw File Optimization).

Bottom Line: After judging photos in real use scenarios (small, medium and large files) on-screen and as prints would be viewedโ€”but NOT pixel peepingโ€”each of the treatments came up with similar, though not identical results. Only with direct comparison were the difference made apparent and only with direct comparison did DxO and Topaz some out on top. In the end, viewing stand alone images, all looked excellent, except for the OM Workspace, which was disappointing.

Maybe DxO PR 5 will be even better, but hopefully without the uber-realistic, somewhat artificial-looking fur and feather detail. As a naturalist for much of the last 40 years, I found that with both Topaz and DxO, the results seemed sharper and smoother than one would normally see, even with the animal/bird in hand. But I guess thatโ€™s the direction photography is going.

Example: Lightroom Base (left); Lr + Lr Enhanced NR (centre); DxO Pure Raw 4 (right)

On my 5K monitor even looking at the three lion images full screen I cant see any difference.
Can anyone point me where to look?

Look at the eye, nose and mouth areas especially. The left image should stand out as being different from the other two. However, the differences between the centre and right images are minimal, at best.

The centre and right-hand images look just about identical to me. The left-hand image is much worse; look at the eye and the teeth.

I also have a 5K monitor. If I look at the eyes and the teeth, the two on the centre and the right are clearly better, while there is still a slight improvement on the image on the right compared to the one on the centre.

Just found out that my recent upgrade to Windows 11 did not go down too well with my (very) old PureRaw 2 ๐Ÿ˜ฎAh well, gonna have dig deep again.

                      Does DXO ever offer promotions?

My PR2 refuses to upgrade to the latest version, still working for now though.
They had a 25% off promotion around Christmas and the New Year so looks like they do have deals

Decided to go for it. Renewed my Nik Collection with V7 (still managed to get a discount) and Pre-ordered PureRaw 5 (available from 15 April). Meanwhile, I got a free V4 until then.

                      Quite pleased with that.
