  • 150-400mm - how to tell if a shot was taken with the TC engaged

I was looking in my CaptureOne filters to see what lenses I had mostly been using this year.

For the recently acquired 150-400mm it shows these statistics

I was puzzling over why it reported the vendor specific lens model with different EXIF details then it hit me:

    - If you had the 1.25x TC engaged, lens is reported as "OM 150-400mm F4.5 TC"

    - Otherwise you get "OM 150-400mm F4.5"

It seems I am using the TC engaged most of the time, those birds and things are often far off...I need to improve the fieldcraft!

Even when you get close, the max mag is often used, certainly in my case. In a recent thread, I said that we often get a too close an image and feel that some of the environment could be included.

A very close-up of the bird is always a striking photo without a doubt. When I had the 100-400mm, almost all photos were at the sharp end anyway...

Anyway Bill, you are working that new lens hard...don't wear it out too soon

Thanks Mark. Yes I do like to try and remember to take some wider shots of things in the environment if I can, the zoom lenses make that a bit easier if something is close.

At almost 60 I’m hoping the new lens will last me the duration if I don’t trip over and smash it on a rock 😀
