100-400mm Sharpness issue

Ref the sale of Dave in Wales 100-400mm in the for sale section.............

There was a question in Talk Photography re the sale of this lens, "is it a sharp copy, anything wrong with it at all ?"

Is there an known issue regarding this lens??

I have recently bought a 2nd hand one, and think its very sharp. Bit slow to focus and IS not as good as the 300mm, are my only Criticisms..

I’m not aware of anything Mark. Dave’s images seemed very good.

I have trouble with AF locking on for BIFs as it hunts around more compared to the 300, usually fixed by switching to a focus range limit.

Yes but sadly true , I answer a lot of queries across multi.media sites and 99% of the time it’s user error or there following advice and settings from someone that should not be giving out that advice and in all honesty doesn’t know how the lens and camera inter-reacts .
The worst ones I’m afraid are from across the pond where a simple short sentence reply is turned into a bloody essay about how smart they are

Pssss Jeff, keep it quite but I just replaced the 100-400 @ midday today, Monday 6th September, it's still in it's box :-))))))))))))

I missed it, fabulous lens, sod the weight, I'll get over that.

Hope the IQ is as good as the first one.

Ho-hum, I'll never learn.
