HELP! Panasonic 100-300mm sticky zoom

I've just bought the Panny 100-300mm and the zoom is a bit "sticky". Zooming quickly to the extremes it's smooth as expected, but if you try and make small adjustments it kind of sticks and and then jumps making it almost impossible to 'finely' zoom. Is this is normal for this lens, and does it free up with use?

I have just bought one through the forum which is the same - checking online told me that this was a common "problem" but didn't come up with any solutions. I've tried a little silicon spray (on a cloth) rubbed on the barrel, but this didn't make any difference. Seems like there is too little lubricant internally, but I don't fancy opening it up to add more!

I'm hoping that it will loosen off in time, until then it doesn't bother me too much.
