  • HELP! Olympus 50 200 (non SWD) on EM5

Hi. I am considering getting the Olympus 50 200 for my EM5 but not very sure about the focus quality. So far the only 4/3 lens i have used is the Olympus 14 54 II and I found the focus usable and accurate for static objects.

I understand that the Olympus 50-200 will focus slower than the 14-54 II and not usable for moving objects. But my main question is will it focus accurately in good light and bad light (indoor)? Or will it keep hunting and missing focus?

    Thanks

I think you will frustrate yourself with this lens on the E-M5 when it comes to AF. It works brilliantly on the E-M1, but not so much on the CDAF only cameras.

The 40-150 Pro plus the MC14 is the way to go on the EM5.

I have a 50-200 which I use with my E-M1. I have an E-M5 too and just tried it on that... well, let's just say that manual focusing works!

On the E-M5 I find the 50-200 Mk1 focus is accurate but slow, bit of a two stage thing ie fairly fast and then a second adjustment. From what I've heard it's better than the SWD.
The great thing about the OMD's is manual focus assist. Really great once you've mastered the technique.

I sold my E-M5 so can't really remember how it focussed the 4/3 lenses, but there is no issue with the E-M1.
