I find this bit interesting " Last year Michael used the Olympus E-M1 in Antarctica and missed some crucial images because he was using 4/3 lenses that did not use the Dual Phase-Contrast auto focus. By the time the lens focused, the shot was gone. This was most noticeable when shooting a whale breaching against a dark ocean background. I am convinced with the 40-150mm and 12-40mm Olympus Pro Lenses that this kind of shot won’t be missed this year when I take this gear to Antarctica."

I am looking forward to hearing about C-AF with this lens hoping it is very positive.

I find this very confusing. As I understand it, on an E-M1 the 4/3rds lenses will always be focussed with phase detect auto focussing (and although the on sensor phase detection is OK its not as fast as the seperate sensor in Oly DSLRs) and the new MFT "Pro" lenses will always be focussed with contrast detection. What is this dual phase-contrast auto focus mumbo jumbo? I believe that such a dual system would be good... but it isn't in any camera that I know of (is it?).

I assume their comment about missing a whale due to slow focus was just ... slow focus, and them trying to explain exactly what type of focus the camera was failing to use is simply hot air. They have to say something.

I must also admit to thinking the same and forgotten about the spec of the EM1.
The answer to this lies in the link he provided to Olympus website. Yes dual CD/PD focusing is in the OMD-EM1.

"Dual FAST AF is made possible through two autofocusing technologies, contrast and on-chip phase detection AF. The on-chip phase detection AF allows for high performance when a Four Thirds lens is attached. However when a Micro Four Thirds lens is attached to the E-M1 the camera utilizes both Contrast and phase detection AF for higher speed and more accurate auto-focusing."

I think this shows that it is always better to buy lenses that were made for the camera body alas another nail in the coffin for FT lenses.

The review is clearly by a mFT convert and backed up his large printing of pictures.

I shall still be holding back by not buying this lens mainly because I brought the Tamron 14-150mm mFT but shall await to see what folk think when the dust has settled and real experiences test the use of CAF performance.
