  • Olympus 35mm F3.5 Macro ?

Anyone got experience of using the Oly 35mm Macro on MFT ? - I know that 35mm (EFL70mm) might be a little short but is it useable in real life and what sort of results can I expect ?

    Thanks

    Re: Olympus 35mm F3.5 Macro ?

Jim I'd say it's a great little lens for what it costs and can deliver really stunning images as posted by several others on here but in my view I don't use mine very much as the working distance can get very short indeed and it hunts focus a lot if you try it hand held. I must admit I've not tried it on micro 4/3s though but I wouldn't expect it to be much different. I'd need to get my lens back from my daughter to give it a try. I'm sure someone else on here will be able to post some experience and example images. If not and you can wait a few days I'll see if I can get mine back.

Thanks Phill - sounds like it should at least be interesting to have a play with.

I'm picking one up with an MMF-2 next week and just wondered about anyone on here's experiences with the lens - as you say with any luck some other members with the lens will come along and post some shots and their feedback

Use mine all the time on 4/3rds, I find it works best on manual, with the lens wound right out by hand and then focused by moving the camera. You need to learn patience and the the results will come.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

I have one and hardly use it due the af being useless but I do not use af for macro.
The real problem for me is the fact the mf is slow and unresponsive like most focus by wire lenses which Olympus could sort with firmware or in camera focus speed settings.
The best fbw lens I have used is the 14-42 ez which is very responsive.

Macro is not easy whatever kit you use I use varoius kit my favourite lens is the sigma 105 as the focus is mechanical and very responsive.

The MF on my 4/3 70-300 is appalling. This is the only lens which I prefer to use with AF. That, said, the AF is hopeless with my EP-2 but pretty good with my EM-1.

It produces excellent images. I find it quite good for telemacro:

I dont see the need for this slow focusng as the motor is capable of focusing almost too fast for MF in these lenses when in AF.

                  Nice work, Alf.

Maybe I'll get mine out after all...

                      Re: Olympus 35mm F3.5 Macro ?

The main disadvantage, for me is that to get 1:1 images you have the lens very close to the subject. I tend to use my 75-300mm with a spacer or two to allow a bit of a gap between lens and subject.

If you have it, it is still a great lens, I don't use mine as much I should but its so light to carry I must make space in my bag for it.

I forgot to say. Best used in manual focus IMHO.
