Now don't get me wrong, I just love this lens but why didn't Olympus provide it with a rubber finish on the focus and zoom rings instead of the textured metal?. So much better when you put the camera and lens onto something solid. Looks all the PRO lenses will be like this.

A rubber finish can detach from the metal work, rubber covers on Oly cameras often are weak points.

Never had a broken with any of my OM or 43rds lenses.

If I put my E-M1 and 12-40 down on, say, a table, the lens barrel is above the table surface. It's the lenshood which would touch down first, if anything. Mind you, I've got the Gariz half-case on for extra protection and grip. I find the metal milling gives a nicer surface to hold for focussing than rubber.

Yes but it is colder to the touch in winter - so you have to focus quickly!

I never notice those things when I'm photographing!
