  • That darned 45mm lens!

OK, so I'm not using it as a portrait lens, but I love that glass! Here on the Panasonic G3.

Crisp and sharp with nice bokeh, that darned G3 brings out the best in the 45mm or is it the other way round lol.

Who knows? Both the GH2 and the G3 seem to bring out the best in just about any m4/3 lens. But I'm getting to think, perhaps illogically, the ooc raws from the G3 are slightly crisper than the GH2.

I'm tempted to get the 45mm, not because I need it but just because it exists, is that reason enough? lol

You need it, believe me, everyone should have one. Even people without a camera should have one. The only reason to hang fire is to see if Olympus bring out a black one. But it looks stunning even in silver. It would look stunning in lime green.

            Got one - beautiful.
So happy so lashed out for a lens hood (expensive! but should be great for outdoor portraits). Lens hood arrived today - but can't fit it...no notches on the lens and the hood has a strange clipping system. Does anyone know the secret on how to attach lens hood to lens??

Oh derr; just discovered the lens has a silver ring over the bayonet attachments - when removed all fits!!

I wonder if I can add some 45mm to StephenL's thread...

It is indeed sharp, and the large aperture is useful in low light: An old stable door:

The shallow DoF lets you play the usual tricks:

EDIT. This second shot was f4.5 - so the bokeh quality still looks great even when partly stopped down, which is a nice bonus.

Oh dear! We're in for a drubbing when Snaarman gets his E-M5 to fit onto the back of this lens!

It's certainly the lens that I would most like to get at the moment.

Very fine drizzle and flat lighting today, so I came back with this, from the 45mm and E-M5.

On first examination, at 100%, it seems there are dead pixels on the fence posts. No: the lens has actually snapped the tiny drops of water in the air above the barrows

And this one is just a sharp fest: The bird screen hung in the farm barn...

How on earth, Pete, can you pull out interesting pics from thin air? Thin drizzly air at that!

Ah, there's a trick I learned from H.C.B. when it comes to a drizzly day and deserted lane. You have top wait for the Decisive Moment..

Actually there are two flaws with that first picture. The lens is doing it's best but I should have moved the bin, and arranged to see the ends of the handles on the second wheelbarrow. These small things annoy me. However if I had moved anything I would have ended up shaking the drips off.
