    Colchester - London Camera Exchange

    I went to see the new olympus OMD at the Colchester branch of London Camera Exchange today and came away with far more than I could have hoped for.

    I have once again found a proper camera shop which is less than a hour from home - I spent a couple of hours with Dave Collins, his staff and an olympus rep and the service I received was superb all are into photography rather than just shop staff.

    What I found out is they are one of the groups Olympus dealers and had a good range of new and secondhand equipment - They entertained me, fed me coffee and let me try out various items which was great .

    For me as a wedding photographer the relationship , service and support is more important than just the price alone - I am absolutely delighted to have found this team and will be looking to build a good working relationship with them.

    I have bough camera and lens from them and price and service were both excellent. I wish they were nearer home.

      I too can vouch for this shop and the staff. I remember my first visit was like going back in time, staff giving advice and customers queueing, not that there was a shortage of staff, they were just so busy.
      I will be getting the EM-1 from them.

        Nice to hear, I have been travelling from Essex down to Park Cameras, about a 140 mile round trip, I'll give them a look next time

          Thanks for these encouraging reviews of LCE Colchester. It is good to know that there is a good, knowledgeable Olympus dealer reasonably close to me. I believe the Norwich branch of LCE used to be the Olympus specialist and I was surprised to discover that it no longer is. I wonder if any of the staff transferred to Colchester from Norwich?

            I fully echo what Tim has said here what a refreshing change it was to have visited LCE today. I did buy something a Olympus lens cap for my 50mm f2 lens. I had an cheap copy with sticky out lugs and had to take it off the remove the lens hood now I am back with leaving lens cap on while I turn round the lens hood and thanks to LCE Colchester for stocking such a thing. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.

                I must add to the other posts on here - Dave at the LCE is brilliant! I first dealt with him early this year when he was selling off all his 3/4's kit and picked up a really well kept 12 - 60 mm. Had been looking for this baby second hand for ages! Only spoke to him on the phone but lens arrived quickly and was exactly as advertised. Furthermore it has proved to be very well cared for by Dave. He is passionate about Olympus and really knows his camera's. Had a look chat with him on the phone!

                So having bought a OM-D as a second camera and wanting a 12mm I travelled down to the shop to trade in my E510 when I had not used since 2012 when I upgraded to an E5.

                In person he proved even more helpful even down to reducing the cost of the 12mm. The shop has a massive selection of Olympus of kit and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Really nice not to be in a Nikon and Canon dominated shop!! And deal with someone who knows their stuff and has a passion about Olympus kit!

                  I wish that there was an LCE here in Wales, preferably Cardiff.

                    I know it is not too close to you, but have you tried Cambrian Photography in Colwyn Bay?

                            Dave - I also have had a lot of dealings with Ivan at Celtic Vision (They also trade as West Wales Binoculars) Another great guy who has done me some great deals - never met the man but spent several K with him - I don't think he is an olympus dealer but does carry the panasonic
