  • Contax SL300RT

Got this recently and what a weird and wonderful thing it is. Ultra compact, has a zoom and flash but the headline feature is the way the lens moves. Have included pictures for reference. The other pictures were taken yesterday at the Black Country Museum and are pretty much straight out of the camera apart from cropping and straightening.

Congratulations on owning that nifty little Contax! Nikon produced a couple of Coolpix models with that same swivelling section - I have a 995 - but they were huge by comparison. I have several SL300RTs, Contax i4Rs, U4Rs and TVS-Digital models and all can produce superb piccies courtesy of Zeiss glass and some clever electronics. Regardless of any other camera I may be using, I always carry a SL300RT, U4R or i4R in a pocket. The U4R was the successor to the SL300RT but it was a little larger, though I doubt that was anything to do with the extra 1Mp.

I've attached an old piccie that was shot in a U4R test - tricky conditions with snow and shadow dominating the view; I remain impressed by the ability of these old Contax digital models to handle such challenging conditions... I hope you continue to have a lot of fun with your swivelling Contax!

Thank you, it is a really cool camera. Came with Contax pouch and branded strap plus a 2gb memory card. I managed to obtain a couple of other 2gb cards as backups. Sorry that an old date appeared on some of the shots- have since got to grips with the menu and now know how to switch that function off.
Working...
