  • E5 RAW & Aperture

Been out to play today with the E5.
Can any one tell me why after importing RAW files Aperture over emphasises the reds and seem to put a magenta cast on everything.
If that is not enough to be going on with; I've downloaded Elements 9 Trial Version and it just does not recognise E5 RAWS. All I get is a panel as king me to 'describe the file'.
    Can any one help?
The background grass up here right now is definitely not this colour!
Not whining but I never ever had this with N*k**n RAW so why with Oly?

I'm no expert (ask anyone ), but you may find that Aperture 3 does not yet support the E-5? http://www.apple.com/uk/aperture/specs/raw.html

It looks like it will process the raw file but use the nearest 'matching' profile. So that may be an answer to your question, but then I'm known for not knowing what the heck I'm talking about!

Keep checking for updates to the camera raw profiles (you could also contact Apple and ask them when they're likely to make it available).

      Re: E5 RAW & Aperture

The E-5 was not yet included in the recent RAW update. But I do expect it to compe within a few weeks. Possibly even with the 10.6.7 update which should be out in a week or two.

(I am eagerly awaiting it too)

        Re: E5 RAW & Aperture

When I first got my E5 I had Elements 7 (works with E30) and it would not support E5 ORF. So I purchased and downloaded Elements 9 plus ACR 6.3 and it all works fine. The trial version and full version doesn't include ACR 6.3 but you can download it free from Adobe website:

          Re: E5 RAW & Aperture

I carried out a test to see how DNG files performed, not having an E5 but only having an E3 I ran a set of E3 Raw Files through the Adobe DNG Converter Application to create DNG files. I then imported them into Aperture. They were identical apart from the focus point information not showing. The Adobe DNG converter program does support E5 RAW files.

Why did I try this out - just in case I weaken and get an E5 before Apple support the E5 Raw files in Aperture and other products.

I wonder why Olympus do not create DNG files as a default or allow one to create them instead of ORF files.

I wrote to a contact in Apple London about support for for the E5 but got the standard no comment comment. As all good reps of a software company should do until the code has gone live.

Elements 9 should support the E-5 as long as you update ACR to version 6.3.

              Re: E5 RAW & Aperture

I recently (November) bought Elements 9. On installing it, it prompted me to download ACR 6.3 so I did.
Now I've just got to get the free download of an E-5.

You may have to wait a bit for that one Duncan.

                  Re: E5 RAW & Aperture

Apple just released support for the E5 ORF (Raw) file support for Aperture, iPhoto and Finder.
My last justification for not buying an E5 has just been squashed <g>
