You could try these people Procamera repair in the USA on e-bay, I have used them and their service is superb. I also noticed as I was browsing their site that they had the rubbers for an E-1 and the display for sale, but that was a couple of weeks ago.
I'l bet if you go on u-tube, there will be a video to tell you how as well.

Try Luton Cameras Chris, they have a very good reputation where Olympus repairs and spare parts are concerned.

Hi there Chris!

It sounds like you were the the lucky winner - I'd had my eye on that E-1 too! Pro camera repair in america are listing the rubber grip at the moment - check out listing 330667606372. With the LCD issue I would be tempted to check the ribbon cable to the lcd and clean the connectors on the end of it very gently with a rubber (eraser) - if you are happy to open it up that is. As for the cost of a repair, I'm guessing it would be more that you paid for the camera!

Sorry for beating you to the E-1 in the auction!

Yes, grips seem to be pretty easy to get hold of.

Hmm I might open her up and have a tweak as you suggest. There's nothing to lose. Replacement panels seem to be non-existent, so it might be the only option now anyway.

I have concluded that the E-1 is not worth repairing unless I can get a cheap lcd panel somewhere in the UK.

That's what I was going to suggest, but didn't want to discourage you, meaning only that such a camera is definitely worth owning, but more easily bought cheap than repaired expensively. There are many nice used E-1 bodies on the market, as you know. Hope you find another one!

If you are having no luck with the LCD panel and want to get rid of it I am still interested. I have spent a couple of hours tonight converting my E-420 to full spectrum, so I've run out of projects again!

Sounds like he is removing the 'hot mirror' or infra red filter from the sensor. This will increase flexibility for infra red photography but will require filters on the lens to achieve the desired spectral range.

Yes, Ian is absolutely right. I've removed the hot mirror and fitted some Spectosil 2000 Quartz glass instead, which removes the filtering for UV light and IR light. I now have an external hot mirror, so the camera functions as normal, and several IR filters I can fit instead and use with the LiveView to take IR photos as quickly as a normal photo (well, maybe a couple of EV down). I'll post some IR photos when i get a chance to take some (really need some sunlight) and I may post a "how I did it" thread as well.
