I've recently purchased an old E-P1 and am trying to understand the camera setting these day. I understand that the lower Aperture setting will make the background blurred but when I try this setting in the camera am not getting the desired result.
Unfortunately the 14-42mm is not the best lens for out of focus backgrounds. The best chance of achieving it is to use the largest aperture (f5.6) at 42mm and move as close to the subject as the lens will focus. It will also help if you place your subject in bright light against a dark background in the shade.
Buying another lens with a larger aperture is the best solution and the cheapest option would be a manual focus 50mm f1.8 legacy lens with an adapter. The most cost effective Micro Four thirds native lens is the Olympus 45mm f1.8.

thanks, it seems to work but i'm not getting my desired results, maybe its because of the camera/lens that am using...
