  • Manual/User Guide

So I bought a used EM10 mark 2. There is no manual beyond a four page guide printed that came with it. It looks like Olympus don't print the full manual only offering a pdf file. Which is worse than useless as it doesn't't support live links to its content... I can't even find a printed guide book written by a third party... Is there at least a pdf that has live links anywhere? I found a version in DUTCH but I don't read Dutch. This is to set the camera up and adjust various settings. I'm aware of Rob Trek's very good YouTube tutorials but he doesn't describe in any detail in the notes how to do things. Meaning I'd have to watch about 15 hours of YouTube to get the gist.

Maybe I should just buy Darryl's book (published by Rocky Nook) on the EM5 Mark 2. I guess most of it would be the same?

When I bought my first Olympus camera I found the Olympus manual painful. Even after 6 years I wouldn’t use one. I find Darryl Youngs books far more intuitive and are well known on here. It also contains visual explanations and setting recommendations using a language, which most would understand. There are so many settings to navigate and any one can have a significant impact. Occasionally it may not contain the last firmware update but generally speaking updates are easy enough to understand via a quick google. It’s also available on the kindle. I opted for the physical book and have bought it for 2 camera models so far bein e-m1 but same principal applies. The book is a very good investment.

Iain's link above to the Printing PDF manuals is printed from the genuine Olympus PDF user manual, it decribes only the functionality of the camera, the menus, switches, screen, focusing ..... etc. The Rocky Nook books, I find, go further in that they explain more clearly the Olympus PDF and also how to actually use the camera from a photographer's point of view, usually with personal preferences and settings.I often find the Olympus user manual somewhat confusing in places and the Rocky Nook books are a great help to get a better understanding. The two go hand-in-hand and complement each other well for me.

Edit: I have Darell Young's E-M1 mk1 version of the book and it is excellent, my go-to book.

After reading all the good stuff and helpful information everyone shared, I just ordered a copy of Daryll Young's book, Mastering the E1 Mark II. It should be called, Mastering the Beast. I am a book person as compared to a VIDEO person and am all excited about getting this manual in my hands. Thanks for the advice, all, and for posting the question, Steve.

Good choice, you will find settings you didn’t know existed. Not sure if Daryl updated the book since I bought it, but mine doesn’t contain firmware v3.0 onwards. V3.0 contains a couple of new menu options as listed in the attached image. A quick google and u can find explanations for each.

I use Wrotniak's explanation for the Fourthirds camera and his cheat guides very helpful. I started using it since the E-330 and have always used it as a very good reference.

This is specifically for the EM10mk2

Me too Henry, his website is a great reference. I got the David Busch book for the mk1 and yes it's a very nice book but I just never used it so didn't buy anything for the Mk2.

Here is the image listing V3.0 firmware updates. Some of them didn’t feature in my book.

I got my book! Last night Successfully hooked my camera to my smart phone and used the remote on the phone to take photos with my camera. I feel like a genius. Actually it was rather easy. I wonder what I will try new today. It is 1 AM. Maybe I’ll read another chapter before turning off the lights.

              I don't read manuals.

              Hard wire connection?

Hard wired connection? NO, not hardwired. I am now connected through WI-Fi. I just uploaded the APP, Olympus Image Share, on my smart phone. I actually followed the directions on the smart phone to connect to the camera. You have to scan a bar code and I was connected wirelessly.

ok. I find the WiFi to phone not stable. First off, my phone keeps disconnecting say no internet connection when it's connected. When in areas with lots of WiFi signals like Disney while shooting fireworks, it refuses to connect for me to use the remote shutter.

Somehow, I still have not gotten to connect my wife's iPhone OIshare.to any of my olympus cameras. It connects fine to the GX8.

So, after looking closely at Olympus's own site I think I may have found the Holy Grail for this camera: https://my.olympus-consumer.com/cdn/...-00/en_GB.html Looks like it could be very useful.

It does not tell you how to use the menu settings and what they are about.

Indeed you are correct. Last night I went through all fifteen tutorials in 30 minutes. Only the most basic information is covered. I've since managed to download the 'preview' of Darrell Young's 'Mastering the EM5 Mark 2' ebook from Kobo book store. It's useful as a start at least.
