  • mZuiko 300mm F4 lens

Does anyone know if dimensions, weight etc., is available yet for the mZuiko F4 lens which is supposed to be released this year? At this moment price is not quite so important....but it will be at some time!

The dimensions of the 40-150 F2.8 has meant that I have to return to using my trusty old and faithful bag, but a larger shoulder bag would be preferable, but it would be good to get something that will also take the 300 F4 one day (soon!?)

Nobody knows but the mock ups and the images on this page http://zuikopro.olympus-imaging.com/en-us/ seem to indicate it'll be about 8 inches long, perhaps slightly shorter. Filter diameter will probably be 77mm.

A 300mm f/4 needs a 75mm diameter front element so you can scale the photos of the mock up from that. Or just check the sizes and dimensions of other makers 300mm f/4 lenses.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

I think we're going to get shown up by the new Full Frame 300 f4 Nikon lens announced today - just 147.5 mm (5.83″) long and 755 grams.

But the Olympus lens will have a field of view equivalent to a 600mm 35mm sensor camera. Or alternatively the Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 lens has the same FOV as the Nikon 300mm lens, but is a stop faster!

            Jim,

But the Nikon will have a similar performance on an APS-C body with a 24 mp sensor to the Oly with a 16 mp sensor.

The new Nikon 300mm can't be compared as it's a phase fresnel design.

Can we get an adapter and use it on our E-m1?

Thank you Andy. It is an interesting lens chart. If we can take any clues at all from it, I would say that the 7-14mm F2.8 Pro will be released first as it is coloured in shaded yellow the same as the existing 12-40 and 40-150 Pro lenses. The 300 F4 Pro is still shaded black for release from 2015! There has to be some significance to this?

On the dimensional front I would agree that approx 8" length seems most likely but I shall allow 9" for a margin of error when selecting a new shoulder bag!

No! It's "shaded" black because it is a prime! The yellow band shows the zoom range.

Anyway, I want it first (now!) so that's that...
