  • Filenames and duplicates!

    Hello!
I recently downloaded a shoot from my EM1 Mark 3 - all images shot on JPEG LSF into LIGHTROOM. I seem to have ended up with a duplicate of every image! Not sure how this happened. The duplicate image has a slightly different filename. Please see the 2 images attached. Can anyone explain what I might have done? Thanks!

Hi Sisi - the two images you have posted above are not duplicates in the sense that while the moment may well have been one and the same, the first has obviously more highlight detail. I can't see the file names from my end, though.

Could you reply here with the file names? If one has an underscore in front of it, that would mean it's recorded with Adobe RGB (wide) colour space - which I'm actually fairly sure you know.

My first thought was you had shot in Raw + JPEG but you say they are both JPEGs. If the filenames are sequentially numbered then maybe you had taken a burst (of 2 at a slow rate (?)).

        Hi Ian,
The first image I have edited so yes there is more detail. The filenames are untitled-2-3.jpeg and untitled-110003.jpeg
        Thanks!

I think by default, Lightroom only imports the RAW. I've usually needed to change a setting to import both when I have shot RAW+JPEG.

The only thing I can think of is that you have imported the same images at different times. If the images are from the same original, but have any changes made to them (edits or file name change) they will be regarded as different images, rather than duplicates, and so will be imported alongside the earlier imported versions.

Well, I only imported them once into Lightroom. Lightroom also does not usually import suspected duplicates (if the setting is turned on). I have not seen this before. Just rather confused as I have double the amount of images I need!

Unfortunately, I'm still scratching my head on this one, sorry, Sisi.

Not to worry Ian. Thanks anyway! Maybe I did something different in Lightroom import. Not sure.... Sisi

Those file names seem a little odd .... Do you only have 1 image on the camera?

One thought...Do you have 2 cards in the camera and saving a copy on the second card and then importing from both cards?

There was only one card in the camera! And, one image of each on the card!
