  • Updating firmware on EM-1 mark2

    Hi
I’m hoping someone has a solution to my problem. I have recently acquired an EM-1 mark 2 that needs firmware updates.. currently it is on 3.2. I’m having an issue updating on my Mac Mini .. I have the latest OM/Olympus workspace but it won’t update my camera.. it keeps saying something about being blocked by Mac mini system. Can anyone help me please.

OM System has this information to solve the problem:

If your MacMini is an Intel based system, try the same approach.

Edit: I don't remember what I did with the Intel based MacMini, but it works now.

A lot of the later firmware updates are for specific lenses so if you don't have them it may not matter if you don't update.

If you are prepared to update using the sd card method, I can help you.

Take an empty formatted sd card and create a folder in the root directory called DCOLYMP. Now go to my drop-box and download the file called E1259999.BIN and install it in that new directory on the sd card. This is the firmware file for version 3.5

        Link to drop-box https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/2uiqi...kboyq4gm2&dl=0

[Note that it may says that bin files cannot be pre-viewed, so just click on "Download"].

Now, this whole process that follows will take a about 1-2 minutes but maybe longer.
Make sure the camera battery is fully charged.
Make sure your camera is turned off at first. Now insert the SD Card with the firmware file.

Start the camera while pushing the "OK" button.
The screen will be black and the orange front LED will turn on.
DO NOT TURN THE CAMERA OFF WHILE THE LED IS ON.

        Wait until it blinks RAPIDLY.
This means the process is finished.
DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE BLINKING IS RAPID. IF YOU DO ANYTHING BEFORE THIS, AT THE WORST YOU MAY BRICK THE CAMERA

You can now restart the camera like you would do normally.

        Attention afterwards:
You may want to remove the "DCOLYMP" folder from your SD card, so you don't flash a new firmware by accident.

I used this method to update my E-M5 ii, very simple and all went well

How about updating via the phone app? I am assuming that the EM-1 Mk II can be updated that way but I had a discussion with David Smith and he told me that updating via the app is by far the safest way to go. In fact he insisted that that should be the only way to update.

Never heard of that method. The card method does it for me. I even updated my OM1 firmware by the sd card method, downloading the BIN file from github.

Thank you everyone I was eventually able to do it.. from firmware 3.2 to firmware 3.7.. I was having an issue focusing with EM-1 mark 2 and the OM 90mm F3.5 macro but firmware update 3.7 fixes it.
I followed griffijg advice and it worked like a charm..

I suggest bookmarking that link above, just in case another update to the MacOS resets all those permissions.
          Working...
