Afternoon all, hope we’re all still relatively sane in these odd times..

A few years back, I moved from Nikon to Olympus but then when the Nikon d500 came out it suited my needs better so I moved back. I also added a d600 to scratch a FF itch whilst also allowing my 16 year old to use both for his A-level.

Last year I bought an e-m10.2 as my travel camera but sold it when I got an iPhone 11 Pro, figuring that the phone’s camera would be good enough. Turns out mostly it’s fine but sometimes it does weird stuff in portrait mode. Of course, you can’t beat a camera...

    With the Nikon, I have a d500 + 16-80 f2.8-f4, 35mm f1.8, 70-300 dx and for the d600 I have a 24-120 f4 and 50mm f1.8. So pretty much the same FL covered twice but needs must.

BUT... I don’t actually want to pick up these cameras. They’re great but there’s no emotion to using them. I’ve considered about Fuji x100 but when I had the “T” I longed for a flippy screen which isn’t going to happen unless I get the latest “V”.

so I’m back to Olympus. I have the e-m1.1 years back and don’t want to buy the 1.3 for financial reasons but that left me wondering about the 1.2....

What sort of used price levels do you think should be achievable ?

    thank you

I’ve seen them at under £600 here so I’d have thought anything more than that is pretty steep

        Hi

I have an EM1.2 that I am about to sell which is in very good condition with 19391 total shutter activations including silent with IBIS (I think - this is the number next to B in the counter and the highest number. The MS (mechanical shutter) count is 8836) and it has all the items in the original box apart from the little flash. It was bought at CameraWorld in Chelmsford. I would be happy to sell at £575 plus £10 RMSD as long as paid online and not PayPal due to the cost. ! will be taking photos tomorrow to upload. If you are interested please send a PM.

        Thanks

        Mark

          Hi Mark

thanks for the offer. I’m not quite ready to buy at the moment ( mid month, Covid-19, hoping for a holiday refund etc etc ) - I’m gauging where the market is for the next few weeks or so

You can buy a brand new (grey import) EM1 Mkii from HDEW Cameras for £800. It comes with 3 year warranty.

based on that, I would not be spending more than £600 on a second hand one as a private sale.

Hi Damian - You're sounding tempted would £200 less than hdew make a deal? 😉

I’m always tempted but ideally I’d want to sell a lens to pay for this..

If someone is not ready to buy then why ask for the current market price as it is constantly changing - just asking. There I have said it . Don't mean to offend anyone.

Oh that is now so tempting. In fact, I've given in and ordered one. Delivery is another £10 BTW.

At that price, I simply can't justify going for the Mk3 for the extra it offers over the Mk2. I would have liked to play with the Live ND, and maybe even HHHR, but these aren't worth £850. This should be a nice upgrade over my Mk1. The only question is, when will I get out and about to use it?

Perhaps as someone hasn’t been in the m43 market for 2 years, they would like to know roughly how much to save up and how close the used market price is to the new one.

i didn’t realise there was some ruling here that you can only ask questions if you have cash waiting 🙄 but I have a classified ad up elsewhere so here’s hoping I can progress soon

HDEW = Grey import but brand new and marginally more expensive than second hand mkii. Also HDEW provide a warranty (Not by Olympus.) I have seen very positive feedback on here for HDEW.
I’ve not personally used them as I was fortunate to get a new one from SRS for not much more new several months back. Was perfect timing for me.
If I was considering second hand based on current market I’d opt for HDEW without a thought as its a a no brainer. The price gap is too close to second hand if you want pristine with v low shutter count imo. Also how do you know second hand cemeras are not imports?

Conversely depends on your requirements as to what is your priority, some people may not be put off by condition or shutter count etc.... Everyone has a different set of circumstances.

I'm in two minds over grey imports. Part of me thinks "why not, better for my wallet", but then I think about the implications - probably VAT or import duty fraud, undermining Olympus UK (who I think do a great job overall), cutting out local suppliers with stores and infrastructure that costs money but delivers us convenience, ... I'm not going to be judgemental for those who think it's ok - but there are wider issues.

Of course, the whole thing begs the question as to why Olympus (and all the manufacturers) operate differentiated pricing to the extent they do.
