Articulated screen dislocated

I am sure members of this forum are far too careful to have done this, but just in case . . .

I dropped my camera - not from a great height (about a foot) - while the rear screen was open and now, although it still works perfectly and goes back into its space, it won't close and springs ajar.

I'm guessing it will probably need a holiday in Portugal, but I wondered if anyone had any experience of this kind of repair and possible cost and whether there might be a DIY fix?

Any advice gratefully received.

It possibly got forced backwards slightly when it dropped. If you want to take the risk, you could try a very old trick that works on appliance doors etc. that have been accidentally forced back, straining the hinges slightly.

The idea is to put something soft like a rolled up tissue or soft string inside the door where it hinges. You then try and gently force the door closed which applies slight pressure against the tissue or soft string and straightens the hinge mechanism. It's worked fine for much larger heavier appliance doors using a rolled up cloth or towel but I've never tried on a small camera door. Given it otherwise will have to go for repair, it may be worth a try but be gentle ! Good luck !

Which camera is this? Does it have the flip-screen or the fully articulating, fold out one?

Sorry - thread title had scrolled off the screen....

I suspect a trip to Portugal is your only option. I slightly bent the hinges on my E-PL5 (flip screen) some years ago but managed by careful partial disassembly and some pliers to fix the worst of it.

Thanks for taking the trouble to respond and for the advice - being rather ham-fisted and afraid of breaking something if I try to fix it myself, I think it's off to Portugal.

I'll post a follow up when I know the cost.

I was preparing the camera for its holiday and turned the screen round so it faced outwards and found it closed perfectly.

So I gave it a little very gentle persuasion in the opposite direction and it now fits perfectly that way too.

Result - problem solved, panic over and I reckon much expense saved.
