  • E-M1 Mark II Friedman guide

When struggling with the menu system on my E-M1 Mark I, I found the e-book by Gary Friedman ($19.95 including updates for iteration of the firmware) very helpful. Now I have moved to the Mark II I asked him if he planned a similar e-book. The response was that if 100 people asked, it might be worthwhile. I realise that i'm more technically challenged than most in this forum, but if others used/liked his stuff and would buy an E-M1 Mark II book, let him know at www.friedmanarchives.com

I have no financial interest in the project.

I've never found these sort of books useful personally. I much prefer to figure it out for myself through tenacity and lots of coffee!

The Friedman book for the MK ii is available as a PDF version, for those people that requested it.

I agree about the Olympus menu system - it's not the most intuitive. You may find this a useful resource: http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/m43/em1.2-sett.html#CONIS

            That's quite a good guide............

Actually just the Contents Table is almost enough.

I have found the Oly menu system OK once you have use the camera for a while. Just need to know what's available really..........

              Thanks

I wonder about these very frequent references to Olympus cameras having complex menu systems. I just don't think it's the case that they're any worse than any other brand.

I regularly teach classes of 10-12 people how to get the most out of their cameras. Students turn up with all sorts of cameras - from simple point and shoot to the most fancy Canon and Nikon gear. As a result, I've now had the privilege(!) of trying to navigate the menu systems of several hundred different cameras.

All of them have menu systems that scare the living daylights out of many people - it just takes a bit of effort to familiarise oneself with the menu system, whatever the brand and model. I tell my students that I keep thinking of renaming my courses to something like "Facing the fear of the menu system" because, once you've mastered the fundamentals that have been the same for decades, that's what causes most people to stick to auto modes.
