  • Lens recommendation for OM-1..Decision.

Never really been down the lightweight end of the Oly range, but now having too.

What is the very best IQ, lightest prime/zoom for use on an OM-1 as a walk-around set-up.

The 25mm f1.8 seems the obvious choice, but I'm sure I've read negative comment

The 45mm f1.8 is fantastic - cheap light and great IQ if it’s not too long for you

17mm f/1.8 is a great walk about prime, and it's tiny.

I just love my 17mm, 25mm and 45mm f/1.2 primes. Image quality can't be beaten (IMO), but the f/1.8s above will be smaller, lighter...... and cheaper 😊

This sounds like another change of heart dave re the camera Dave ..I do hope so .. the stand alone body is really light and do we honestly need the sharpest lenses for what we do .. the plastic fantastic 40 -150 covers a big range ? You recommended one to me and you were right .. it’s good
I suggest going on to wex website and going through available ranges then check on weight before purchase

Olympus 12-45 takes some beating, small light, excellent IQ and weatherproof.
I use it as my travel lens, even though its constant f/4 modern camera technology and NR software negates it.

Agreed! If you're looking for a combination of excellent IQ, light weight and weather sealing, the Oly 12-45mm f/4 PRO sure takes some beating.

Also look on e.bay .search MFT lenses which will come up with the Panasonic ones

Echoing other comments, the 12-45 f4 PRO is an incredible light lens, if you add the 40-150 f4 PRO, it makes a very good lightweight combination which is easy to carry around all day. Although a bit heavier the 8-25 f4 PRO is also a good companion lens for the 40-150 if you need a wider option.

agree with the above of course. Other options include 12-40 f/2.8 pro - still a fantastic lens. If you're looking at primes and affordability and quality are just as significant as saving the odd ounce, then the Sigma primes are great, e.g. 30mm f/1.4. If weight is absolutely paramount, maybe consider a smaller Oly body?

I have the 12-45 f4 and it’s my most used lens. Lightweight, versatile and weather sealed. Love it

Ok I have the OM-5 rather than the OM1, but I can now take ALL my lenses with me walkabout... a Panasonic 25mm f1.7, the 12-40 f2.8 pro and the 40-150 f4 pro. Normally it's just the first two though.

It all depends on what you are shooting. My current walkabout lens is the 12-200. It's not the brightest, it's not the sharpest BUT it gives the flexibility. It's not the brightest but the OM-1's ISO noise control is good enough to give this 12-200 usability. It's small and cheap because there is no IS.

12-100 on an EM1ii does most of my non wildlife photography.

Yup, 95% of what I do is with that lens. None finer.
It also balances beautifully with the OM-1 body.
I was waiting for someone to mention it.
Still hoping for a mkII which would take the MC-20 convertor. That would give 12-200, 400 in old money. Would reduce kit to a skeleton.

Surely with the T/C it would be a 24-200 f/8?
Not really that useful for many occasions or at least it wouldn't be for me

Sorry. Meant total range. I wouldn't use the TC at the short end.

I have a 12-100, but you have to admit it's a bit of a 'lump'

I agree Dave, it's not ideal to just slip in a small bag for wandering around.
That's why I suspect myself and a fair few others have taken to the 12-45.
Not used my 12 -100 for a while, but it's not costing anything to keep.
