  • Double charger, leaves a lot to be desired.

    P*SS poor design IMVHO.

The heavy cable, the one supplied with C connectors each end, sort-of fits in the charger.....loosely.

It waggles up and down like a Pied Wagtails tail, catch it wrong or drop it....BINGO....somethings got give.

    £2K camera...£119 charger, no cable.......It's a joke.

I have one on order, along with a battery.
    Perhaps I shouldn't bother?

Hmm wonder of it is possible to hot wire the battery to the Em1Mk2 charger somehow 🤔

Rob Trek has used a rubber band twisted into two loops with one loop to hold the battey down and the other loop to provide forward pressure to maintain the contact with the charging pins. Said it worked fine!

I have tried charging the battery using the EM1.2 charger. The electromechanical interface and spacing are the same, same goes for the polarity and the signal interface however the nominal voltage differs. I have tried twice. At the first attempt, the charger would charge the battery, starting with the orange flashing light and eventually green light, however, the charger seemed to consider the battery fully charged even though it is not as it stopped charging at somewhere around 90% capacity, which is not ideal but OK. At the second attempt, it refused to charge and emitted a flashing green light.

Interesting. With only one battery currently, I didn't want to risk damaging it. I have seen the fast flashing green light with my BLH-1 batteries - it seemed to happen when around 90% charge.

Maybe the aftermarket will do it better (and almost certainly cheaper!).

Yes, I'm betting on ExPro or JJS releasing one in a couple of months, maybe £49.99 for a single one: I'd buy one.

I tried various USB-C cables and connectors (Apple, OWC, ProGrade) and they all seem to "waggle" by the same amount as the Olympus cable and the charger.
Both the charger and the cable seem well built to me.

I had a look and there are USB-C to USB-C PD version cables.......do I understand correctly that such a cable can be used with the OM-1 power brick as well a PD battery pack i.e. for charging with either method???

The double charger I've got has one USB-C socket at one end.

              Check the manual page 294.

                    Hi Dave

If your post is in answer to my post #8, yes I know the power brick has the USB-C socket on one end

What I was trying to say/ask was:-

The supplied USB-C to USB-C cable with the ferrite chokes on is used both for data comms when connecting to PC or Mac & for charging using the the above mentioned power brick.

But if I wanted to buy another USB-C to USB-C cable just for use with the BCX-1 charger would it worth the minor difference in price to get a PD version of the cable so that should I ever in future get a PD grade external battery can I use that grade of cable to also link the power brick to the camera???

Doesn't....... Check the manual page 294........say it all?

                        As my PC doesn't have a USB-C input I have both USB-C to USB-C cables and USB-A to USB-C

These are the USB-C to USB-C cables which are PD. I have used them to charge from the power bank works very well. I also use one to charge my phone from the work laptop which does have USB-C and the phone shows fast charging.

I have also bought a pair of Anker USB-A to USB-C to connect to the PC for updates data transfer.

I purchased a USB male to USB-C female adaptor so that for data transfer I could use the cable that came with the camera with my PC.
