  • Using Flash...........

I very rarely use flash these days, but in the last fortnight, I have used it on two sessions....(?)

So I was surprised today, that the flash now works with the silent (electronic) shutter! Not that it will ever make a big difference to my photography, but it does save faffing around with changing the shutter type....

Can you select when the flash triggers ?

      Unsure what that means...

I install the flash, switch it on, and take a photo, Presumably it uses the default settings....

All seemed to work OK. I was surprised, as with older (?) cameras, we had to use the (noisy) mechanical shutter.

I think Graham is referring to first or second curtain triggering Mark.

I assume there are settings somewhere hidden in the menus. As said, any of these settings must have been the default ones, I didn't fiddle with them, honest...

When I bought my old E-M1 Mk III, I noticed that the flash didn't work with the electronic (silent) shutter. So I Googled away looking for an override switch. There was. I applied it and it worked. When I bought the OM-1, one of the first things that I did was enable flash usage with silent shutter. My idea was that, if I noticed banding or some other aberration, I could always switch on the mechanical shutter. Knowing full well that I would struggle to find the override switch again, I added it to "My Menu".
