I test drove the OM-1 Mark II at OM System Plaza in Tokyo.
I created a situation simulating overlapping branches using bird objects and artificial flowers, and compared the behavior of the bird recognition AF with my OM-1. With the OM-1 Mark II, the behavior in which the AF moves to the branch in front when a bird is recognized (AF runaway) has been significantly reduced.
Also, when the AF target is set to ALL or LARGE, when the OM-1 focuses on a branch in the foreground, it barely recognizes the bird in the background and continues to focus on the branch in the foreground, but the OM-1 Mark II often does what is ideal. That is, it ignores branches in the foreground, recognizes birds in the background, and focuses on them.
I had seen review videos and articles, but when I actually compared and experienced it myself, I felt that the AF behavior had certainly improved.
I only touched on it for a short time because I kept my wife waiting, and since it was an indoor experience and not an actual outdoor situation, it's not a very meaningful review, but I'd appreciate it if you could talk about it.
We also inquired about the possibility of updating the OM-1's firmware, but were told that this was not possible at this time as there were many issues that could be improved by adding more memory. As I said in another thread, even if it were possible, the OMDS head office wouldn't say anything, and the general staff wouldn't divulge anything, so at this point I can only say that there's no possibility of a firmware update.
In addition, you can use the M.ZD 40-150mm f2.8 Pro+ teleconverter and M.ZD 100-400mm f5.0-6.3 depending on the situation, and the skillful combination of the new function LiveGND and 8mm f1.8 Fisheye. We talked about how to use it, but that's another story.
