  • I've had a little experience with the OM-1 Mark II.

I test drove the OM-1 Mark II at OM System Plaza in Tokyo.

I created a situation simulating overlapping branches using bird objects and artificial flowers, and compared the behavior of the bird recognition AF with my OM-1. With the OM-1 Mark II, the behavior in which the AF moves to the branch in front when a bird is recognized (AF runaway) has been significantly reduced.

Also, when the AF target is set to ALL or LARGE, when the OM-1 focuses on a branch in the foreground, it barely recognizes the bird in the background and continues to focus on the branch in the foreground, but the OM-1 Mark II often does what is ideal. That is, it ignores branches in the foreground, recognizes birds in the background, and focuses on them.

I had seen review videos and articles, but when I actually compared and experienced it myself, I felt that the AF behavior had certainly improved.

I only touched on it for a short time because I kept my wife waiting, and since it was an indoor experience and not an actual outdoor situation, it's not a very meaningful review, but I'd appreciate it if you could talk about it.

We also inquired about the possibility of updating the OM-1's firmware, but were told that this was not possible at this time as there were many issues that could be improved by adding more memory. As I said in another thread, even if it were possible, the OMDS head office wouldn't say anything, and the general staff wouldn't divulge anything, so at this point I can only say that there's no possibility of a firmware update.

In addition, you can use the M.ZD 40-150mm f2.8 Pro+ teleconverter and M.ZD 100-400mm f5.0-6.3 depending on the situation, and the skillful combination of the new function LiveGND and 8mm f1.8 Fisheye. We talked about how to use it, but that's another story.

sounds good but not if you have recently bought into a OM1 I think that's what's upset the apple cart ..a lot of us feel let down by broken promises and lack of updates or even hints

Edited to add - I do sympathise and understand your feelings but -

In all fairness, Jeff, you still have a great camera and kit which will serve you for many years and will stay supported.

I felt let down by Sony some years ago when after buying an A65 then passing that onto my wife when I bought an A77 (remember the SLT cameras with the Pellix mirror). Sony then started into the mirrorless 'E' cameras but promised us faithfully that they would continue with the 'A' series cameras and lenses in the SLT range. They totally lied and dumped them completely, no support, no new lenses, no nothing!. I was left with cameras and lenses which nobody wanted and were worthless.

Now THAT is what I call being let down.

I think OMS will be keeping everything quiet for a while. There will be a firmware update for the OM1 and other cameras for the two new lenses so perhaps they might put something in that. Otherwise I think it will be a while before anything is announced.

Thank you for this update - I think you are the first member here to have tried the OM-1 Mark II - congratulations!

OM System never promised anything that I am aware of, it was all on the rumour mill and from YouTube content creaters.
        Rumours are just that, rumours.
There was a big firmware update for the EM-1 Mk II which gave a huge improvement for CA-Fand that is the only really big firmware update I can remember.
        Oops I forgot.
Actually there was a promise of about a stop less noise for the OM-1 when it was launched, that did leave rather a sour taste although I do think the noise looks a bit better.
